Elysian Gallery + Café

The Riverbend's Cultural Hub

Elysian Gallery + Café is more than a gallery and more than a café — it’s a cultural hub in the making. We’re building a space that connects people, supports creativity, and strengthens the heartbeat of Alton’s Broadway district.

Elysian is co‑created by fine art photographer Jeff Bohnert, whose creative vision drives the gallery’s exhibitions, atmosphere, and artistic direction, and attorney Janel Freeman, whose strategic mind, determination, and community‑focused advocacy keep Elysian growing with purpose. Jeff brings the creativity. Janel brings the structure. Together, they bring the momentum.

With our artists, baristas, and the incredible community around us, we’re building partnerships and collaborations with local businesses to help energize Broadway, support Lower Downtown Alton, and create a bridge to Lucas Row and the Alton Amphitheater. Elysian aims to be an anchor — a place that helps connect these districts, encourages foot traffic, and contributes to a thriving, walkable, creative corridor.

We’re also proud to be a welcoming stop for travelers exploring the Riverbend and the Great River Road. Whether you’re visiting from out of town or discovering a new favorite spot close to home, Elysian offers a bright, quiet, evening café experience for anyone looking for something meaningful beyond the bar scene. A place to unwind, read, meet friends, enjoy art, sip coffee, and feel part of something.

Everything we’re building comes back to our motto and mission:

Art. Coffee. Community. You Belong Here.

This is our vision.

This is our purpose.

This is Elysian.
